Karina Paschalis

Welcome to our new series, dedicated to introducing you to the entire team at hackajob.

This month we’re hearing from Karina Paschalis, who currently works in our Marketing department. Our resident art lover, you can often find Karina at gigs and festivals, or spending time at home painting.

Why hackajob?
When I finished education, I knew I wanted to do something that mattered and made a difference. I just knew that I wanted to be around a good team and contribute as best I could.

I approached hackajob last year at the end of February after working in the corporate world for 14 months, having decided that I no longer wanted to be ‘just a number’ within a large organisation. Instead, I was super keen to do the opposite and work for a start-up. I read about what hackajob do and the company mission and it instantly sparked my interest. I knew it was something that I wanted to be a part of.

Tell us about your day-to-day:
My routine completely changes from day to day given my job role, however, as I’m now really involved in the marketing-side of things, a typical day for me involves going over our social media strategy, writing articles and working on events with our Marketing Lead, Daisy.

I never thought that I’d be interested in Marketing, but I actually really enjoy it and am starting to get my certifications which is really cool. I also look after our website from a content perspective, write our weekly newsletter and am in charge of hackajob’s monthly wine club. If you want in, make sure to hit me up🍷. I'm looking forward to learning more and doing my Facebook exams in the near future.

I take huge pride in what I do here at hackajob as I have a big role to play when it comes to our culture and that's something we really pride ourselves on. It might seem cliche, but we really do see hackajob being a home from home and as much as we wouldn’t like to admit it, we are one big quirky family.

What’s your favourite hackajob feature?
My favourite hackajob feature is the fact that we offer opportunities to absolutely everyone, no matter their age, gender, ethnicity, race, educational background, disability or anything. I love hearing our success stories, such as when candidates sign up to the platform with no real commercial experience, but they’re so super talented that they smash our coding challenges and end up in amazing careers. It makes me so proud!

What’s the one thing you’re excited for this year at hackajob?
To be completely honest, I feel excited every time we have our weekly company meeting. I really enjoy listening to members of the wider team stand up and talk about their achievements and successes. It makes me happy to see the direction that we’re going in and the fact that we all have such an important part to play on what happens in the future of our business!

If you could give someone looking to work in Marketing one piece of advice, what would it be?
Listen to your gut, trust your instincts and give yourself praise!
